Start with scouting

The Natutec Scout Horiver Scanner for Android and iPhone is the mobile version of the Natutec Scout application. In this application, it's possible to scan a Horiver map on-site in the greenhouse or field and upload it. The Horiver Scanner will automatically determine the quantity of whiteflies on the Horiver map based on artificial intelligence. Additionally, manual scouting sessions can be entered into the mobile application.

Login Page:

When opening the application, the login screen appears. Enter the username created in a previous step, not the email address used to create the account. The desired language can also be selected on the login screen.

Start Screen:

The home screen displays all active sessions on the phone. Once the scouting sessions are uploaded, they move from the "Active sessions" tab to the "Uploaded sessions" tab. New scouting sessions can be added by clicking the "Add scouting session" button on the home screen.

Add Scouting Session:

After clicking the "Add scouting session" button, the "Add scouting session menu" appears. This menu has three parts: Location, Department, and Action. Select a location, then a corresponding department, and finally, check the applicable options.

Scan Single Side:

The option "Scan single side" can be selected to prompt the app to request only one photo. By default, it asks for photos of both the front and back.

Replace Cards:

Enabling "Replace Cards" indicates that after this scouting session, the cards will be replaced with new ones. This affects the Increase calculation on the Analysis page. If the cards are not replaced, it subtracts the value from the previous week at that location from the current value to determine the increase.

Experimental Mode:

The experimental mode allows scanning for Thrips. Guidelines for using the Thrips scanner are provided. It cannot be used simultaneously with the whitefly scan. Thrips scanning is limited to the lower four squares of the Horiver map.

Click on "Save" to generate an active session. After clicking "Save," the session appears in the "Active sessions" tab. Click on the session to start scouting.

During Scouting:

After opening the scouting session, a screen with numbered paths appears. The choice between "All" and "Horiver maps" can be made at the top. Selecting "Horiver Maps" hides combinations where there is no Horiver map on the layout.

Select Scouting Method:

  • Observation: Captures all Intensity and Presence scouting methods, allowing manual entry of values for each location.
  • Scan Horiver: Uses the Horiver Scanner by using the phone's camera as a scanner. Take a photo of the Horiver map, and AI calculates the whitefly quantity. Results appear on the dashboard after up to 12 hours.
  • Count Horiver: Manually count pests and natural enemies on the Horiver map and enter values per species.
  • Assign to Series: Apply observations made in one place to every leg in the row or a portion of it.

Attachments:

  • Photo: Take photos during the scouting round, which are uploaded in the scouting session and visible on the dashboard.
  • Note: Make written notes, which are also sent and available on the dashboard.

Click on "Save" to record the observation.

Scan Horiver:

  • Photos: Front and Back, depending on whether Scan Single Side is selected. Options include "Front" and "Back."
  • Scan Single Side: Select this option if only the front of the Horiver map will be scanned.
  • Replace Card After Scan: Indicate if the Horiver map will be replaced after the scan.
  • Take Photo (Scan): Accept access on Android and iPhone.

Scan Frame:

Hold the Horiver map at a 60-degree angle and keep the mobile device at a 60-degree angle for the best photo result. Ensure that the Horiver map fits within the frame that appears.

Scan Button:

Press the Scan button to take the photo (scan).

Analyzing Sticky Card:

After taking the photo, an analysis starts to determine if it meets the conditions. Two criteria appear: "Sticky card found" and "dimensions." If both conditions are met, checkmarks appear. If one or more criteria are not met, crosses appear. If a cross appears under "Sticky card found," the scanner cannot find the sticky card. Ensure the Horiver map is visible and fits within the frame. Press "Try again" to take a new photo.

If a cross appears under "Dimensions," the message "Sticky card out of view. You are probably too close" appears. If this message appears, the sticky card is found, but the photo is likely too close or too far away.

After three attempts to take a new photo, if the photo cannot be taken without the messages, the option "Use Anyway" appears, where the last photo will be used as a scan. After using the "Use Anyway" function or when the photo is taken correctly, the last photo appears with a red cross on the left and a green checkmark on the right. The choice can still be made to retake the photo by clicking on the red cross or to accept the photo by clicking on the green checkmark.

If the photo is accepted, the "Scan Horiver" menu reappears, allowing a choice between switching to Scan Single Side or not and whether the card will be replaced after the last scan. Click on "Save" to save the session.

Return to the main menu with "Active sessions" and "Uploaded sessions." Check if the session has been uploaded by clicking on "Active Sessions." If the last session is still visible here, it has not been uploaded. If this is the case, click on the active session again

and then on "Complete" in the upper right corner. Then a choice can be made between "Complete session," or the session can be deleted by clicking on "Delete session." The session is now uploaded or deleted.

Count Horiver:

Use the "Count Horiver" option to manually count the quantity of pests and natural enemies and then enter them behind the Pest or Natural Enemy. This menu works the same as the "Observation" menu, with the difference that in this menu, only pests and natural enemies on the Horiver map are counted.

Return to the main menu with "Active sessions" and "Uploaded sessions." Check if the session has been uploaded by clicking on "Active Sessions." If the last session is still visible here, it has not been uploaded. If this is the case, click on the active session again and then on "Complete" in the upper right corner. Then a choice can be made between "Complete session," or the session can be deleted by clicking on "Delete session." The session is now uploaded or deleted.
